about

Hi! I’m Zain, a Syrian-American director, screenwriter, camera operator, and editor based in Pittsburgh, PA. I’m currently a student at the University of Pittsburgh pursuing a major in Film and Media Studies and a minor in English Literature.

Most of my childhood was spent beneath a mountain of LEGO bricks, inventing worlds and characters that to me, seemed infinite. When I graduated from LEGO-building to filmmaking, that capacity for the infinite stuck around. Today, art in every form- music, literature, theater, painting- feeds the imagination that drives everything I do. And film, in its endlessly engaging and empowering way, is how I express it.

Though my main interest lies in directing and writing, I have considerable experience as a camera operator and editor. I’ve been fortunate enough to work on features, shorts, documentary, and corporate work in (and around) my hometown of Pittsburgh, PA. Working with hosts of talented friends and colleagues is what makes this whole thing worth doing, and I’m just as happy to help realize a vision as I am to lead a project of my own.

I’m constantly seeking new experiences as I continue to sharpen my craft. And though that craft has evolved beyond LEGO, I still carry the same attitude today- that whatever I can dream, I can create. I hope you’ll stick around to see what that is!
